Trying to find the 'Perfect' Mascara

There are so many different brands of mascara! How can just ONE be the best?

What is it we look for? What do we really want in a mascara?

Length? Fullness? Lasts all day? Doesn't flake? Doesn't smudge?                                                       Can ONE mascara really be all of these things?

I put 3 DrugStore Mascaras to the Test.

Loreal Voluminous, Maybelline Great Lash, and Maybelline Colossal Volume Express.

Loreal Voluminous, Maybelline Great Lash, and Maybelline Colossal Volume Express.

I have used one mascara for a while now...Loreal voluminous.

I have always really liked it, but lately I have been hating my lashes and the only time I am content is when I add my Ardell individual lashes or lash strips.

Loreal Voluminous. Considering it has been my main mascara for a while, after trying a few others I have realized it makes my lashes the most clumpy and thick looking. I think that's why I have always loved it , because I felt like they were fuller, which they are, but because my lashes are so short, straight and thin, it wasn't doing anything for them!! When I apply this mascara to my lashes, there is always a lot of mascara on the wand which I find is hard to distribute, leaving my lashes with more mascara on them, then they need! If you have longer lashes though, this mascara is a GREAT CHOICE!

The Colossal Volum' Express Mascara by Maybelline is actually a waterproof mascara.(which I did not realize when I bought it) This wand is a lot more full and round then the Great lash. This being said, I found that this made it 'feel' like I was able to create more volume for my lashes, although it didn't really do much for mine. I also found that there wasn't much mascara on this wand either, making me have to apply a few more coats than what I'm used to with Loreal Voluminous. And waterproof mascara is just not a good idea for everyday. It pulls on your lashes and eyelid when taking it off, and makes your lashes feel hard if more is applied for touch-ups. TIP- Don't pump your wand in and out of the tube. This adds air into the tube, drying it out, which makes you go through a tube a lot faster than you need to. Overall, this mascara is great to use when going swimming or an event where you may be crying or sweaty. It is a great waterproof mascara.

Great Lash by Maybelline is another mascara that I have heard is pretty good considering the price. So I figured I would put it to the test. The one thing I liked AND didn't like about it, was how small the applicator was. When applying it, I felt like it wasn't able to pull my lashes up, creating a full effect. And that there wasn't a lot of mascara on the wand, so I had to apply multiple coats to feel like I had any on. The good thing about how small the wand is, is that you are able to get into the corner of your eye without getting mascara anywhere else. Also applying to the bottom lashes was also easier because of the small applicator. Great Lash by Maybelline is a great mascara for people who don't need to wear mascara. If you have dark lashes and they have somewhat of a wave to them, add a little of this baby and you will be set!

After trying all 3 of these, and finding that their cons outweighed the pros(for my short lashes), I decided to go out and buy a mascara that I have only heard good things about. YSL BabyDoll Mascara. Compared to the $8 price of the drugstore brands, this mascara is $32 from Sephora. I needed to see for myself the difference a high end name brand mascara really made. I will say that my lashes are somewhat difficult to find a good mascara for, so when I tried the Yves Saint Laurent, I was pleasantly surprised that there was quite a difference. It doesn't make my lashes look clumpy, and it helps make them feel fuller. And it has a little bit of a perfume smells, which is always nice because mascara isn't the best smelling product!

They look a little thicker in this photo because of the black and white, but in person it was a lot thinner looking.

SO unfortunately if you were looking for a cheap mascara, the $32 Yves Saint Laurent one is my WINNER.

And although I have found a mascara that I really like now, I always resort back to wearing my lash strips(when I have less time to apply lashes) as well as the individual lashes,(which are so nice and lightweight and natural looking.) I hate to admit it but this is actually my favourite mascara! FAKE LASHES! No mascara can make my lashes longer, and that is why I prefer to wear them!
